You can now set up WhatsApp Business messaging, the service that lets your company talk to customers inside WhatsApp, by chatting with an AI agent. You describe what needs to be done, and the agent does it. Until now that setup meant moving between several tools, including Meta’s Developer Console, its Business Manager, the API reference, and a code editor.
The agent can create your WhatsApp Business account, add and verify your phone number, register it for access to the Cloud API, check your Terms of Service, and more.
This runs on the new WhatsApp Business Tools MCP. MCP, Model Context Protocol, is a standard way for an AI agent to connect to an outside service, here the WhatsApp Business Platform. It works with AI coding agents such as Claude, Cursor, Codex, and ChatGPT. Meta already had MCP servers for managing ads and monitoring app configurations; this one is built for getting businesses onto WhatsApp.
After the setup
The same agent keeps working once you are live. Describe the message template you want and it creates it, or ask it to edit one you already have. You can test messages and webhooks. And you can have it monitor things that may previously have failed quietly, like your Terms of Service, your payment method, and your Business Verification.
During setup and configuration, Meta’s other server, Meta Social Technologies MCP, can find API endpoints, search documentation, and help troubleshoot errors.
One caveat. This is a connector for AI coding agents, so someone on your side still has to drive one of them, and to look over what it did in your name before the first customer message goes out.
