Wispr Flow launched voice AI that understands Hinglish – the mix of Hindi and English that millions of Indians speak every day. The company says users in India are signing up faster since adding this feature.
Most voice AI products struggle in India because they’re built for pure English or pure Hindi. But real conversations don’t work that way. Indians switch between languages mid-sentence, saying things like “Main office ja raha hun” (I’m going to the office) in the same breath.
Speaking Like Real People
Wispr Flow realized their English-only AI was missing huge opportunities. Indians make up one of the world’s largest English-speaking populations, but they don’t always speak textbook English. They blend languages naturally, and AI needs to keep up.
The company trained their system to handle this language mixing. Instead of forcing users to pick Hindi or English, the AI adapts to however people actually talk. Users can give voice commands in whatever feels natural.
Other voice AI companies are watching this closely. India represents a massive market, but cracking the language puzzle has been tough. Google, Amazon, and Apple all offer Hindi support, but Hinglish recognition remains spotty.
Wispr Flow’s bet is paying off so far. Growth numbers jumped after the Hinglish launch, suggesting there’s real demand for AI that speaks like people actually do.
Expect more voice AI companies to tackle mixed-language support. India’s success could push similar features for Spanglish in the US or other language combinations worldwide.
