Fluidstack, a company that builds data centers for AI companies, is raising $1 billion at an $18 billion valuation. The startup was worth just $7.5 billion a few months ago.
This massive jump happened after Fluidstack signed a $50 billion deal with Anthropic, the company behind Claude AI chatbot. That’s one of the biggest infrastructure deals in tech history.
From Zero to Billions in Months
Fluidstack builds the massive computer warehouses that AI companies need to train and run their chatbots. Think of them as the landlords for AI – they provide the space and computing power that companies like Anthropic rent to make their AI work.
The company went from relatively unknown to one of the most valuable startups in the world almost overnight. Their $50 billion contract with Anthropic is bigger than the entire annual revenue of many Fortune 500 companies.
Anthropić needs these data centers to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s AI products. Running AI chatbots requires enormous amounts of computing power, and companies are willing to pay huge sums to secure that capacity.
The New Gold Rush
This deal shows how desperate AI companies are for computing power. As the AI race heats up between tech giants, the companies building the infrastructure are becoming incredibly valuable.
Expect more massive deals like this as AI companies scramble to build enough computing capacity to stay competitive. Fluidstack’s success could inspire other data center companies to focus specifically on AI customers, who are willing to pay premium prices for guaranteed access to computing power.
