A venture capital firm called 137 Ventures just raised over $700 million to invest in growing tech companies. The firm has backed some of the biggest names in tech, including SpaceX, defense company Anduril, and manufacturing startup Hadrian.
This is a massive amount of money at a time when many investors are being much more careful with their cash. While most venture capital firms have been struggling to raise funds lately, 137 Ventures managed to collect three quarters of a billion dollars from wealthy investors.
The Smart Money Follows Success
What makes 137 Ventures attractive to investors is their track record of picking winners early. SpaceX, now worth over $180 billion, has been one of their biggest success stories. They also invested in Anduril, the defense technology company that builds AI-powered military equipment, and Hadrian, which uses robots to manufacture rocket parts and other precision components.
The firm focuses on “growth-stage” companies, which means they invest in startups that have already proven their ideas work and are ready to scale up quickly. This is often seen as less risky than investing in brand-new companies with untested products.
With $700 million in fresh capital, 137 Ventures will likely look for the next generation of SpaceX-sized opportunities. Expect them to focus on companies working on space technology, defense systems, advanced manufacturing, and other areas where software meets hardware in big ways.
