Shopify Lets AI Chatbots Shop and Buy Things for You

Shopify Lets AI Chatbots Shop and Buy Things for You

Shopify now lets customers buy products directly inside ChatGPT without visiting actual websites. The shopping platform partnered with the AI chatbot so its 5 million online stores can sell through conversational AI.

This marks a major shift in how people might shop online. Instead of browsing websites, you could just tell an AI what you want and it handles the entire purchase for you.

Shopping Without Websites

Shopify introduced this ChatGPT integration in fall 2025 as AI chatbots started changing online shopping. The company also launched a “universal cart” that lets one AI bot add items from multiple different stores, so you don’t have to jump between websites.

For store owners, Shopify built an AI store builder that creates functioning online shops just by describing what you want. They also upgraded their AI assistant called Sidekick to chat in over 20 languages and create visual content.

The strategy seems to be working financially. Shopify reported 9% revenue growth in the third quarter, reaching $1.67 billion. The company appears to be betting that AI shopping assistants will become the new normal, and they want their merchants ready for that shift.

Expect more shopping platforms to follow Shopify’s lead as AI chatbots become smarter at understanding what people want to buy.
