A humanoid robot just crushed the human half-marathon world record in China. The robot, made by tech company Honor, finished 13.1 miles in 50 minutes and 26 seconds – beating the fastest human time by a full 7 minutes.
This isn’t your typical clunky robot. The machine ran completely on its own, navigating the course without any human control. While humans have hit a wall around 58 minutes for the half-marathon, this robot just smashed through it like the barrier never existed.
The Robot That Runs Like Us
Honor built this robot to move like a human, with two legs and a running stride that looks surprisingly natural. The machine had to balance, adjust its pace, and handle turns just like any human runner would. But unlike humans, it doesn’t get tired, doesn’t need to breathe heavily, and doesn’t hit that dreaded wall that slows marathoners down.
The robot completed the race as part of a demonstration in China, showing off advances in humanoid robotics. These machines are getting scary good at copying human movements, from walking up stairs to now apparently outrunning Olympic athletes.
What Happens Next
Don’t expect robot runners in your local 5K anytime soon. These machines cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and are still experimental. But this race proves that robots are getting remarkably human-like in their abilities. If they can run marathons today, what other very human activities will they master tomorrow?
