A new open-source AI called Audio Interaction never stops listening and makes split-second decisions about when to respond. Unlike ChatGPT’s voice mode, this AI doesn’t wait for you to finish talking before it starts thinking.
The AI checks every 0.4 seconds whether it should speak up or stay quiet. It can translate languages, transcribe speech, and even notice background sounds like coughing – all at the same time while you’re still talking.
Always On, Always Deciding
Most AI voice assistants work like walkie-talkies. You talk, then they process everything you said, then they respond. Audio Interaction works more like a real conversation where someone might jump in to agree or ask a question before you’re done.
The creators released everything for free on GitHub, including the code and instructions to build your own version. This is unusual because most advanced AI voice technology stays locked behind company walls.
The AI handles multiple tasks simultaneously in one continuous stream. While listening to someone speak English, it could translate to Spanish, write down what they’re saying, and prepare a response – all happening live.
What’s Next
This could change how we interact with AI assistants. Instead of the choppy back-and-forth we’re used to, conversations might feel more natural and flowing. Since it’s open-source, developers can modify it for specific uses like real-time translation services or accessibility tools for people with hearing difficulties.
