Meta Prepares Second Generation of Ray-Ban AI Glasses

Meta is getting ready to launch the next version of its Ray-Ban smart glasses that can take photos and answer questions using AI. New government filings show the company is preparing two new models to follow up on their first attempt at putting artificial intelligence into sunglasses.

The original Ray-Ban Meta glasses let you snap photos, record videos, and ask an AI assistant questions just by talking to your frames. Now Meta wants to make them even smarter with better AI features and improved cameras.

Smart Glasses Take Two

Meta’s first Ray-Ban AI glasses launched last year as an experiment to see if people actually wanted computers on their faces. The glasses look almost identical to regular Ray-Bans, but they hide tiny cameras and speakers that connect to your phone.

You can ask them things like “What am I looking at?” and the AI will try to identify objects or read text in your view. They also let you take hands-free photos and videos by saying “Hey Meta, take a picture.”

The new government paperwork doesn’t reveal what improvements Meta is planning, but the company has been working on making the AI smarter and the battery last longer. They’re also trying to make the glasses look even more like regular sunglasses so people don’t feel weird wearing tiny computers.

What’s Next

Meta hasn’t announced when the new glasses will launch or how much they’ll cost. The current version sells for around $300. If the company can make them work better and look normal, smart glasses might finally become something regular people actually want to wear every day.
