Google’s AI Assistant Now Speaks 8 Indian Languages

Google just launched its Gemini AI assistant inside Chrome browsers across India, supporting eight local languages including Hindi, Bengali, and Tamil. This marks Google’s biggest push yet to make AI accessible beyond English speakers.

The move puts advanced AI tools directly into the hands of over 700 million internet users in India. Until now, most AI assistants worked primarily in English, leaving out huge populations who prefer their native languages.

Speaking Your Language

Gemini can now understand and respond in Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, and Tamil. Users can ask questions, get help with tasks, or chat naturally without switching to English.

This isn’t just translation. Google trained Gemini to understand cultural context and local expressions in each language. The AI can help with everything from writing emails to explaining complex topics, all while speaking naturally in your preferred language.

India represents Google’s largest opportunity outside the US. With smartphone adoption exploding and internet access growing rapidly, millions of new users come online every month. Most of them don’t use English as their primary language.

What Comes Next

Expect other tech giants to follow suit quickly. Microsoft’s Copilot and ChatGPT will likely add more Indian language support soon. Google is also testing voice features that could let users speak to Gemini in regional dialects.

This could transform how people in India use the internet, making AI tools as accessible as social media apps already are.
