Firefox just launched its first-ever corporate mascot – a fox named Kit that breaks right out of the browser’s logo. The cute digital companion is designed to help users navigate today’s internet while staying protected from surveillance.
This isn’t just about having a friendly face. Firefox is fighting for survival as people flock to Google Chrome and Apple Safari, while new AI tools change how we browse the web. The browser has lost 25% of its users since 2020 and now holds just 5% of the desktop market.
Breaking Out of the Logo
Kit looks exactly like the Firefox logo fox, but now he can move around and interact with users as a digital guide. Mozilla worked with design agency Jones Knowles Ritchie to create a mascot that feels both familiar and alive – like the fox literally jumped out of your browser icon.
The timing matters. As AI companions become normal and tech giants collect more personal data, Firefox wants to remind people they have choices. “We want people to feel that Firefox has their back,” says Amy Bebbington, Mozilla’s global brand head.
Firefox built its reputation on privacy features, but it’s getting squeezed. Google and Apple push their own browsers on their platforms, while companies like OpenAI attract users with AI-powered web tools.
What’s Next
Kit will stay consistent across all Firefox marketing – no costume changes or different art styles. Mozilla hopes this digital fox will help people remember that browsing the internet doesn’t have to mean giving up your privacy to tech giants.
