Dyson just released a smaller version of its famous Supersonic hair dryer that’s designed for travel. The new model costs $300 instead of $400 and comes in a compact size that fits better in luggage and gym bags.
This matters because Dyson basically created the premium hair dryer market when it launched the original Supersonic ten years ago. That $400 price tag seemed crazy at the time, but it worked so well that other companies rushed to copy it.
Same Power, Smaller Package
The travel version keeps the same technology that made the original popular – it dries hair faster while being gentler than traditional dryers. Dyson figured out how to put a tiny motor in the handle instead of the head, which is why their dryers look so different.
The company is clearly betting that people who already love their full-size version will want a portable one too. Business travelers and gym-goers have been asking for something like this since the original launched.
What’s Next
Expect other hair tool companies to follow with their own travel versions. When Dyson does something new, the whole industry usually copies it within a year or two. The travel dryer goes on sale soon, and it’ll probably sell well despite the high price – Dyson has proven people will pay extra for hair tools that actually work better.
