Domino’s just gave its famous pizza tracker its biggest update in years, adding AI to make delivery times more accurate than ever.
The pizza chain’s tracker was already a game-changer when it launched in 2008. It let customers see exactly when their pizza moved from ordered to baked to delivered. Now Domino’s is using artificial intelligence to make those time estimates much more precise.
Smart Pizza Predictions
The new system runs on what Domino’s calls “DomOS” – their own operating system that watches everything happening in real time. The AI looks at what people are ordering, how busy each store is, when orders pile up during big games or TV commercials, and what’s happening with delivery drivers.
“AI helps by looking at these signals together instead of isolation,” says Mark Messing, Domino’s vice president of global digital marketing. The system learns from past patterns and adjusts constantly as things change.
The updated tracker shows just four simple stages instead of the old detailed steps. iPhone users get new widgets on their lock screen that show a progress bar and delivery time. When your pizza is out for delivery, the progress bar turns into a moving car icon so you know it’s on the way.
Domino’s also added Uber-style tracking that shows your delivery driver as a car moving on a real map.
Pizza Tech Wars
This upgrade comes as Domino’s leads the pizza market while competitors like Pizza Hut struggle with store closures. The company has always treated itself as a tech company that happens to sell pizza, and this AI upgrade shows they’re doubling down on that strategy.
