Asus Makes Tiny Gaming Monitor to Sit Next to Your Main One

Asus just announced a 12.3-inch touchscreen monitor that’s designed to sit beside your regular monitor, not replace it. The ROG Strix XG129C is meant to be a helpful sidekick for gamers and streamers who want extra screen space without buying a massive second monitor.

This isn’t just a random small screen. Asus is directly challenging Corsair’s popular secondary display products, which have become must-have tools for serious gamers and content creators. Think of it like having a smartphone screen permanently attached to your desk – perfect for Discord chats, streaming controls, or keeping an eye on system performance while gaming.

The Desktop Real Estate War

Asus borrowed this idea from their own laptops. Back in 2020, they released the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 laptop with a built-in secondary screen above the keyboard. That feature was popular enough that they decided desktop users might want something similar. The new monitor is slightly smaller than their laptop version but works the same way.

Corsair has owned this space for a while with their Elgato Stream Deck displays, which streamers use to control their broadcasts with custom buttons and shortcuts. Asus is betting that gamers want something bigger and more versatile than those button-focused screens.

Expect more companies to jump into tiny secondary monitors as streaming and gaming setups get more complex. The trend toward multiple screens isn’t slowing down, but not everyone has desk space for two full-size monitors.
