Apple’s Smart Home Screen Delayed Again Until Fall

Apple’s rumored smart home display keeps getting pushed back. The device, which some call a “HomePod with a screen,” was supposed to launch in 2025, then moved to spring 2024, and now won’t arrive until fall.

This mystery device could be Apple’s answer to Amazon’s Echo Show and Google’s Nest Hub. Imagine an iPad that stays on your kitchen counter, controlling your lights, showing recipes, and playing music. Apple seems to be struggling to get it right.

Third Time’s the Charm?

Leakers first spotted hints of this device years ago. The latest rumors suggest it will run something called iOS 27 – a special version of iPhone software designed for smart home controls. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who’s rarely wrong about Apple plans, confirmed the fall timeline this week.

Apple already makes the HomePod speaker, but it lacks the visual interface that makes Amazon’s Echo Show so popular. A screen would let you see weather forecasts, control smart lights with taps instead of voice commands, and video chat with family.

The delays suggest Apple is being extra careful. The company famously scrapped their AirPower wireless charger after announcing it because they couldn’t make it work properly. They don’t want another embarrassing cancellation.

What’s Next

Expect more leaks as fall approaches. Apple typically announces new products in September, so this smart display might debut alongside new iPhones. The big question remains: will people pay Apple prices for something Amazon sells much cheaper?
