Gmail is adding AI-powered summaries to workplace email accounts. The feature will scan through multiple emails and create instant overviews of what you need to know.
This could save office workers hours each week. Instead of reading through dozens of emails about the same project or topic, Gmail’s AI will pull the key points into one summary. Think of it like having an assistant who reads everything and gives you the highlights.
Your Inbox Just Got Smarter
The AI Overviews work by scanning related emails in your inbox and identifying the most important information. If you have a chain of 20 emails about a client meeting, the AI will create a short summary covering the key decisions, dates, and action items.
Google is rolling this out to business Gmail accounts first, not personal ones. The company has been testing similar AI features in other Google Workspace tools like Docs and Sheets. This is part of Google’s bigger push to compete with Microsoft, which has been adding AI to Office apps like Word and Excel.
The feature uses the same technology behind Google’s search summaries, but it’s trained specifically for email content. It can understand context across multiple messages and pick out what matters most.
What’s Next
Google says the feature will start appearing for some business users in the coming weeks. Personal Gmail accounts might get similar features later, but no timeline has been announced. The company is being careful about rolling out AI email features after privacy concerns with earlier tests.
