ChatGPT Launches $100 Monthly Plan for Heavy Users

ChatGPT Launches $100 Monthly Plan for Heavy Users

OpenAI just launched a new ChatGPT Pro subscription that costs $100 per month. The pricey tier gives users five times more access to ChatGPT’s coding tools compared to the regular $20 monthly plan.

The expensive subscription targets people who use ChatGPT’s programming features heavily. Think software companies, consultants, or anyone who relies on AI to write lots of code. For most casual users, the $20 plan will still do the job fine.

Five Times the AI Power

OpenAI says the Pro plan is built for “longer, high-effort coding sessions.” Translation: if you’re using ChatGPT to build entire apps or write complex programs, you won’t hit usage limits as quickly.

The move shows OpenAI is betting that businesses and power users will pay premium prices for AI tools. It’s similar to how Adobe or Microsoft charge more for professional versions of their software.

The timing is interesting too. OpenAI faces growing competition from Google’s Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude, and others. A super-premium tier could help them make more money from their most dedicated users while competitors fight over casual users.

What’s Next

Expect other AI companies to copy this playbook. We’ll likely see more expensive “Pro” versions of popular AI tools as companies figure out how to make money from artificial intelligence. For now, most people can stick with cheaper options unless they’re building the next big app.
